Jeane Lepper , Labour and Co-op Councillor for Hollingdean and Stanmer, is asking Coldean residents for their views about traffic in Coldean Lane.

Jeane says, “ A number of residents concerned about the speed of traffic in Coldean Lane have contacted me. They felt that although the speed camera installed some years ago and the two new crossing islands have helped there is still a problem and they asked if the Council would cut the speed limit there to 30mph.

“I took this up with the Council but its Transport Planners have ruled out a change to the speed limit in Coldean Lane at present – although they have also told me they will be “monitoring traffic levels” on Coldean Lane once the changes proposed for Lewes Road have been implemented.

“A further worry of some residents is that the Green’s Lewes Road traffic scheme will lead to more vehicles using Coldean Lane to avoid the restricted road space for cars in Lewes Road between Hollingdean Road and Coldean Lane.

“The Council plans to bring in a 20mph speed limit in Coldean in 2014-2015 as part of its Citywide 20mph policy, but Coldean Lane itself will not be included.

“I’m keen to know the views of Coldean about traffic in Coldean Lane, the plan for a 20mph speed limit throughout most of Coldean and what the Lewes Road scheme might mean for Coldean”.
