After the by-election in East Brighton on 18th October, Chaun Wilson was elected to Brighton and Hove council. She will sit with fellow Labour Co-Op councillors, Gill Mitchell and Warren Morgan.

While the Greens and Conservatives both saw their share of the vote fall by up to 5%, the Labour vote went up by a significant 13%

Coun Wilson said: “I’d like to thank the people of East Brighton who have expressed their confidence in me and I will work hard for all residents in the ward.”

Labour group leader, Gill Mitchell said ““This is a great result for Labour and throughout the campaign people have clearly expressed their opposition to what the Tory Government is doing to their country and what Green Party policies are doing to the city.”

The by-election was called when sitting Labour Co-Op councillor, Craig Turton resigned due to ill health.

Chaun Wilson, Labour and Co-operative Party – 1596 votes

Joe Miller, Conservative Party – 531 votes

Charlie Nicole Goldsmith, Green Party – 456 votes

Sabiha Chodhury, UKIP – 148 votes

Dominic Felix Sakalski, Liberal Democrats – 59 votes

Jon Redford, Trade Unionists & Socialists Against Cuts – 55 votes.
