Moulsecoomb Councillors Express Concern over Community Centre Demolition Threat
MOULSECOOMB & BEVENDEAN Labour & Co-op Councillors are expressing their “deep concerns” over council plans to demolish The Bridge Community Centre to make way for a new development on the site.
In a letter to the Green Council, Ward Councillor and Labour Co-op’s Children & Young People’s Spokesperson Mo Marsh, has led calls for clarity on the future of The Bridge, which has secured future funding for its services but now faces the threat of becoming homeless.
Cllr Marsh asks the Green Council what steps they are taking to secure The Bridge’s citywide services for vulnerable residents, such as career and job advice; IT, literacy and numeracy support; outreach and community development work and health and wellbeing provision.
Brighton & Hove Labour & Co-operative Lead for Children & Young People and Moulsecoomb Councillor Mo Marsh, said:
“The Bridge provides excellent services for vulnerable adults with little or no qualifications and those with other health and social care needs, right across the city.
“The centre is an asset to the city and staff at The Bridge have already worked hard to secure future funding for its services at a time when such money is scarce. Now they face another hurdle thanks to the council informing them that they will have to leave their current home.
“That’s why I have written a letter of support to the council asking them to give all the help they can to The Bridge as well as asking them what they are doing to help secure these vital services for city residents.”
