FORMER LIB DEM JOINS LABOUR
A former candidate for the Lib Dems has joined the Labour Party.
Ellen Woolley, of Phoenix Rise in Hanover and Elm Grove, stood as a Lib Dem candidate in the ward in 2007. But now she is a member of the Labour Party, and is campaigning for local Labour candidates Tracey Hill, Leo Barraclough and David Speirs.
She says, “Nick Clegg could have afforded to be honest to the young people he spoke to. But instead, he made a pledge and broke his promise. If you promise something to young people you should keep it. My family went on the big march – they all feel let down.
“Thanks to Labour, disabled people have had some chance of a social life through day centres, but now they risk being cut off. It’s hurting people, but at the poorest end.”
“Labour stands a better chance of convincing people there’s an alternative. The government went racing ahead with reforms to the NHS, but now they are beginning to come unstuck.”
Labour candidate Tracey Hill says “All over the ward we are talking to people who have made the decision to come back to Labour. Ellen does a lot of work in the community and has seen first hand the benefits Labour has brought. We’re delighted that she will be helping us with our campaign.”
