Hollingdean road safety fears ignored by Tories
Hollingdean Councillor, Jeane Lepper, will raise serious road safety concerns with Brighton & Hove’s Tory administration, at a council meeting in Brighton Town Hall this week. However, this won’t be for the first time.
Cllr Lepper has consistently raised Hollingdean’s need for traffic calming and road safety measures since the Tories came to power in 2007, including several council questions and 5 petitions which includes those from parents of St. Joseph’s School, residents in Stanmer Villas and Roedale Road, all calling for measures to make the area safer.
The Hollingdean Local Action Team, which Cllr Lepper chairs, has also offered-up Hollingdean as a pilot area for a reduced-20mph scheme. However, all requests have so far been dismissed.
Hollingdean Labour Councillor, Jeane Lepper, said:
“Time after time I have raised these serious local road safety concerns on behalf of Hollingdean residents and on each occasion it’s fallen on deaf Tory ears. Local people are angry with these let-downs and feel that this Tory administration does not take their concerns seriously.
“I will ask The Tory Cabinet member for the Environment, Councillor Theobald, one last time before the local election, whether he will pledge to take immediate action to improve road safety in Hollingdean, but I am not optimistic about his response. The only way Hollingdean residents can guarantee get safer local roads is by voting Labour this May.”
