Brighton & Hove Labour Proudly March For An Alternative
Brighton & Hove Labour joined swathes of everyday working people from up and down the country in London this Saturday 26th in the March for the Alternative.
Half a million people attended Saturday’s march, in protest against the Tory-led government’s cuts. The Tory-led Government say “there is no alternative,” but Labour wanted to show that the government’s present strategy was wrong, and that cuts were being made too far, too fast.
Labour say the next step for the alternative voice will be counted in the ballot box this May 5th.
Brighton & Hove Labour Leader, Councillor Gill Mitchell, said:
“This Tory-led Government say there is no alternative The half a million who marched yesterday know what the alternative is. These cuts are being made too far, too fast. The government’s strategy is wrong, unfair and will not get the country working.
“May 5th will be a referendum on the coalition government’s economic and social policies. We will be asking local people to vote against unemployment, poverty and cuts in public services.
“Brighton & Hove Labour have now launched our manifesto for a fairer city and we will be asking local people to show David Cameron and George Osborne what they really think about their savage cuts strategy, by voting Labour this May 5th.”
Ed Balls MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, said:
“These cuts are too far, too fast. Labour would be halving the deficit steadily over four years – not trying to cut it further and faster than any other major economy in the world.
“What we really need is a plan for jobs and growth to help people in Brighton & Hove and help get the deficit down.”
