Labour Voice Concerns Over Feed-In-Tariff Review
Labour Councillors are concerned over Government proposals, revealed today, to review the hugely successful Feed in Tariffs scheme.
Since their creation by the previous Labour Government, Feed in Tariffs have stimulated environmental growth, driven innovation, created jobs and cut carbon.
The decision to review follows apparent evidence that large scale solar farms could soak up money intended to help homes, communities and small businesses generate their own electricity.
However, Brighton & Hove Labour & Co-operative Councillor, Warren Morgan, who chairs the council’s Environment scrutiny committee, remains unconvinced and sees the review as a cynical manoeuvre by the Government, to “wriggle out” of their commitments to renewable energy.
Commenting on the review, Labour & Co-operative Councillor Warren Morgan said:
“I’m very worried by the timing of this review, coming as it does on the heels of a 10% cut in Feed-In Tariff funding.
“I want to know exactly where the “risk” is of these solar farms and how many are actually planned, or this is just another red herring from the Conservative-led government trying to wriggle out of it’s commitments to renewable energy.”
Cllr Morgan is Chair of the city council’s Environment scrutiny committee and part of a panel looking into renewable energy.
