Cllr. Les Hamilton

Les Hamilton

Les Hamilton

In 1971 Les Hamilton was delighted to be elected to Portslade Urban District Council and was disappointed when the Tories abolished the council in 1974. He said, “It was a great little council which was able to respond to local problems quickly and effectively”. Apart from a one year break, due to job restrictions, Les has been a Portslade councillor since 1971. He has served on Hove Borough Council and presently on Brighton & Hove City Council. He was honoured to be Mayor of Hove in 1994/5.

Les has always given a very high priority to his council service and has a remarkable record of attending 1000 consecutive meetings from 1971 to 1993.
Having lived in Portslade for over 60 years, Les firmly believes that Portslade people should be served by Councillors that live in Portslade and are out and about in our town on a daily basis.

Councillor Hamilton was a teacher in the City for 43 years and is now retired. He serves as a Governor at Portslade Infant School and Peter Gladwin School and is involved in a large number of activities in Portslade.

Les says, “I want to continue as a councillor representing Portslade because I believe that I have the experience and the time to look after the interests of the people that live in Portslade.”

Les is a Labour Councilor in the South Portslade ward.
