Hanover & Elm Grove candidate Tracey Hill on parking issues in Elm Grove
Zoe Bouras (Letters, January 14) is not alone in witnessing problems with cars parked on the pavements along Elm Grove.
I have been speaking to many residents close to Elm Grove and the subject has come up frequently, with concerns voiced about adequate space on the pavement for pedestrians and safety issues with vehicles driving on the pavement – particularly with a school on the street.
I recently had to step out of the way of a large van which was driving directly towards me along the pavement, between houses on one side and parked cars on the other.
I also spoke to a woman who was knocked over by a man running for a bus as he tred to get past her and around all the parked cars.
It’s clear that there have been problems of this kind for some time, and it’s not the only thing. Dog mess, litter, poorly maintained houses and patchy bus services are all concerns.
I am certain that with some fresh ideas and dedication, more could be done to improve the environment in Elm Grove.
Tracey Hill
Labour Council Candidate for Hanover and Elm Grove Chatsworth Road, Brighton
